Actionaid  -  2012 Update

As part of our commitment to global community cohesion, we at  Fixby J & I School, via Actionaid, sponsor a child in Kenya.

We have sponsored  David Mwita Werema since September 2009.  David is now 6 years old and has recently started in the Reception class of Thomasindia Primary School in Kuria his local village.  Kuria is one of the poorest areas in the western region of Kenya.  David’s home is made of mud and cow dung slapped on wattle to give a bit more durability and water proofing, with a corrugated iron roof.  We’ve received a letter from David’s fieldworker who sends David’s greetings and tells us that David is in good health. Our sponsorship has helped his family and his school such a lot.  With our support, his school have been able to buy new chairs for David’s class.  Thankfully, Kuria has not been directly affected by the recent drought in Kenya.  However, food prices have rocketed acrosss the country affecting every family.  Actionaid have been working in Kuria to improve agricultural techniques and get better harvests.  Our sponsorship helps ensure families continue to have the water they need to drink, irrigate their crops, send their children to school and water their cattle.

All our children at Fixby, are encouraged each month to donate a few pennies from their pocket money to send to David.  Please encourage your child to send in a few pennies each week to help support this very worthy little boy.  We send a monthly donation from school plus the children’s donation.  Thank you.

If you would like to write a letter to David, please hand it in at the school office to Mrs Todd.
