British Values

At Fixby Junior, Infant School we take our responsibilities very seriously to prepare pupils for life in modern Britain.

We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through our Fixby School vison statement ‘Learning Together - Achieving Together'. This infuses the community ethos and inclusive work of the school.

All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our RE, SMSC and PSHE lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding. Pupils embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives.

The school makes considerable efforts to ensure children have exposure to a wide experience beyond their local community during which these concepts are shown. We offer a wealth of activities, sporting events, residential visits and welcome visitors from all faiths and groups to provide children with experiences to enrich their learning opportunities and widen their understanding of the world. Their strong-rooted values-based understanding gives them an excellent platform for embracing difference.

We value the diverse backgrounds of all pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. We, also, actively challenge opinions contrary to these British values. Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind rules and laws. They are also taught to take responsibility for their actions and the consequences for themselves and others if rules and laws are broken. Our positive behaviour policy and Thrive approach encourages tolerance and mutual respect.
