Good morning 5/6 AA.  

I hope you had a good weekend.  Here is your work for today.  (Mrs Walker's group, scroll down to find your work)

 

Please go to whiterosemaths.com.  Go to resources (at the top) and click on year 5.

Watch the video for lesson 1 (decimals up to 2dp).  Then complete the worksheet by clicking underneath get the activity.  (You can write the answers in the yellow book that I put in your home pack.)  You can check your answers when you have finished.

Good morning 5/6AA.  I hope you had a good day yesterday and managed to get your work done.  School was very quiet today without all of you.  These are your tasks for today.

 

Maths 

Please go to www.whiterosemaths.com.  Then go to resources - year 5.  Watch the video for lesson 2 (decimals as fractions 1) and then get the activity.  Once you have completed the worksheet you can check the answers.

 

Reading

Start reading one of the five books that you chose from the library (or one of your own).  Write down 5 words the book that you don't understand the meaning of.  Use a dictionary (or the internet) to find out what these words mean.  Write a sentence using each of these five words.  

 

Writing

Go to the classroom secrets website - year 6 -GPS and complete the first three quizzes (Year 5/6 common exception words 1 to 3).

 

Topic

In the afternoon I would like you to go to the topic folder and choose one of the activities from the topic grid.  Make sure you have lots of fun while you are doing it.

Computing: Access the first Code for Life block, Levels 1-12 (the link is in the Computing folder).

Reading

Read one of the books that you chose from the library.  Find 3 words in the book that you don't understand and find out what they mean.  

 

Writing

Imagine that you are a farmer.  What is your day like? I would like you to investigate a usual day in the life of a farmer.  Think about:

  • What time they have to wake up. 
  • Which animals they have to look after.
  • How they look after the animals.
  • Which crops do they farm.
  • How they grow and collect the crops.

Write down the information that you find in your yellow books.

 

Topic

Go to the topic folder and choose one of the activities from the topic grid to do.  Make sure to have lots of fun while you are doing it.

Good morning 5/6AA.  I hope you are all well and that you are managing to keep yourselves entertained.  I've got a lovely activity for you to do this afternoon and younger brothers and sisters can get involved too (so can older ones).  Here are your tasks for today:

 

Maths

Go to whiterosemaths.com -resources - year 5.  Watch the video for lesson 3 (decimals as fractions 2).  Once you have watched the video, get the activity and answer the questions.  You can check your answers when you have finished.

 

Reading

Please read the climate zones text, then answer the climate zones questions.  

Writing

You are going to investigate the factors that influence climate,  There are 6 factors altogether.  For each factor, write a paragraph explaining how it influences climate.  For example, the first factor is latitude.  Places located at high latitude are far from the equator, whereas those at low latitude are close to the equator.  You will need to explain how this position affects climate.  You can do this on the actual sheet below or in your yellow books.

Topic/afternoon work

I would like you to create a rainbow picture to put in your window.  Please read the sheet below as it explains why you should do this and there are also some pictures for inspiration.

Thursday 26th March 2020

Good morning 5/6AA.  I hope you managed to make the most of the sunshine yesterday.  I went out into the garden where Ava and I planted some seeds.  We weren't very successful when we planted seeds last year but I'm hoping that the sunshine will help this batch.  Here are your tasks for today:

 

Maths

Go to whiterosemaths.com - home learning - year 5.  Then go to lesson 4 - understand thousandths.  Watch the video first then complete the worksheet by getting the activity.  Check your answers when you have finished.

Reading

If you have a garden or outside space, go and sit outside and read your book.  Explain to a member of your family what has happened in the story so far.  You can also tell them what you think will happen next.  If you don't have a garden or outside space, snuggle up on the sofa instead.

Writing

Read Rose and Kilu's story by clicking on the link underneath.  There is a task for you to complete at the end.

 

Topic / afternoon work

Do something active.  Play football in the garden, have a race with your brothers and/or sisters, play catch or do some gardening with your parents.  If you can't think of anything to do, you could try the Joe Wicks P.E lesson or have a go at the Shrek kids dance class with Oti Mabuse from Strictly Come Dancing.  Have fun.

 

If you want to do some computing, access Code for Life levels 19-28. This time you are working on loops and repetition.

Good morning 5/6AA.  Can I remind you all to do an accelerated reading test once you have finished reading a book. We need some more points.  Here are your tasks for today:

Reading

Read the diary entry from Diary of a Wimpy Kid and then answer the questions.  When you have finished you can check your work using the answers.

 

Writing

Yesterday you learnt about farming in Kenya.  Please read this information about a farm in England.  Compare farming in England to farming in Kenya.  What are the similarities and what are the differences?  Think about the crops that they grow and why they grow those particular crops, the weather and the equipment that they use.

Look at the animal life cycles in the file below.  Choose an animal that you would find on a farm and create your own life cycle diagram for that animal.  Can you please include an image or a drawing and a description of each stage of the cycle.

Go to whiterosemaths.com - home learning - year 5 - week 2.  Watch the video for lesson 1 (step 6 - rounding decimals).  Then answer the questions on the worksheet.  (You can get the worksheet by clicking under get the activity.)  When you have finished you can check your answers.

Reading

Read the text and then answer the questions at the end.

 

Writing

For the rest of this week you are going to write a diary.  You will write an entry for each day.  I would like you to tell me how you have spent your day.  Below you will find some examples of diary entries and a checklist that you need to follow.  Today you will write your diary entry for yesterday (so it will need to be written in the past tense), tomorrow you will write your diary entry for today and so on.

For the rest of this week you are going to be writing a diary.  A diary is a record of what you have done that day but you can also write about how you felt.  Today you are going to write about what you did yesterday.  Start by telling writing about what you did when you woke up and end with what you did before you went to bed.  Explain how the things that you did made you feel.  Click on the files below to read an example and to get a checklist of things to include.
