Fixby House Point System
Fixby House System
The House System is designed to embody the values and vision of Fixby J&I School and is an integral part of our ‘Fixby Family’. It is our ambition that the House System alongside the School Council will enable our pupils to have a stronger voice in the decision-making across the school.
The objectives of the House System
Our objective is to give every child:
- Opportunity to work together across all year groups
- Positive role models
- A sense of belonging
- A sense of achievement outside the classroom
- Individual and collective responsibility
- Fun and excitement through competition
House Names and Captains
The Fixby ‘Houses’ are named after Huddersfield Parks and allocated a colour:
Each ‘House’ has a staff Captains and a Year 6 ‘House’ Ambassadors:
House Meetings
Each house will meet termly with their Staff Captain. In the first meeting, the pupils will collectively choose a range of rewards that they can pick if they are the winning house each half term.
In subsequent meetings, the theme of the meetings will be teamwork.
House Points
Pupils in each ‘House’ strive to earn as many ‘House Points’ as they can to support their ‘House’ and to be the ‘House’ with the most points at the end of each half term.
All staff in school will allocate ‘house points’ to the pupils they see going above and beyond to embed the Fixby Values in their daily lives.
Pupils will be given a coloured token to match their ‘house’ and these will be collated as a class, which will feed into the whole school collection for each house.
These will be counted weekly to monitor each houses progress to the final total which will be collated at the end of each half term.
House Competitions
Each half term, pupils will participate in an intra-school sporting competition. The children will compete within their phases to collect house points for their house. At the end of the competition, the house with the highest number or points earned in the competition will be awarded additional house points and the Sports Trophy for the competition and this will be adorned with the house ribbons and displayed in the school trophy cabinet.
House PE Kit
The children will be given a coloured t-shirt to show which house they belong to. Their first t-shirt will be funded through the Sports Premium finding and is free to all parents.
This will be their PE kit and children are to wear it for all PE lessons and competitions.
Rewards
Each half term, the house points will be collated and the house with the highest number of tokens will select one of the rewards they chose collectively.
At the end of the academic year, the winning house will visit their house park. They will travel by coach, enjoy a picnic there and play games.
As each House is named after a local park, we are encouraging the children to visit their park all throughout the year. If the children can get a photograph in their park in each of the four seasons they can earn extra points for their house. If you do visit the park, take a photograph near a landmark of the park and send it to your child’s class teacher. They can then print out the picture and add it to our Hall of Fame.
