Friday 3rd April 2020

Good morning 2S,

Well, when you've done today's work you'll have made it to the Easter holidays! I'm sure that you'll all be glad of a rest before we get back to learning on Monday the 20th April. I'll be busy planning new work for the next topic.

Did you start today with doing Joe Wick's Workout in fancy dress? I'm going to make sure that I still do my exercising during the holidays and I hope that you will do this, too. Joe will be continuing to do his workouts during the Easter holidays so we've got no excuse!

How are you getting on with your diary extract and your big cat fact file? You'll need to finish off both of those today.

Remember, after Easter we'll also be doing TIME in Maths. If your parent is shopping in Asda, they may be able to get you a clock for £2. If you don't put batteries in, you can move the hands yourself to set different times. It's a great way to learn to tell the time. I've put the picture below again, like I did yesterday.

Love from Mrs Stansfield

Try and get a clock for after the holidays. They're £2 at ASDA.

English

Please work with a parent or an older sibling to check the first part of the diary entry that you wrote yesterday. Make any edits that you need to do.  Check for:

  • Capital letters for names;
  • Capital letters and full stops for each sentence;
  • Question marks;
  • Any other punctuation, such as exclamation marks or commas for a list;
  • Spelling mistakes - use Google to check.
  • Correct use of tenses.

Before you write the next part, look again at the features. Have you included them all?

Here’s the rest of my diary entry. I hope you agree that it is a WAGOLL!

For lunch I had a healthy salad and then did a quick yoga session. I don’t want to get too fat or inflexible! I really hope that 2S aren’t eating too many unhealthy treats!

Before I continued with my work, I did FaceTime with my Mum and Dad because they are missing us all so much. I’m worried about them and so I am glad that they are staying at home where they are safe from this nasty bug.

During the afternoon I did lots of online learning. The courses are all very interesting and they will help me to become a better teacher. It’s good to have time to learn and I will even get certificates for my courses!

Before tea I went on a walk with my family. We have been doing this every day. I feel very lucky that we live in a beautiful area with hills and woodlands. It’s also lovely to see other people and say “Hello!” to them, but we always stay at least 2 metres away.

Bye for now Diary. I will speak to you again very soon.

When you have finished, please work with a parent to check the second part of the diary entry. Make any edits that you need to do.  Check for:

  • Capital letters for names;
  • Capital letters and full stops for each sentence;
  • Question marks;
  • Any other punctuation, such as exclamation marks or commas for a list;
  • Spelling mistakes - use Google to check.
  • Correct use of tenses.

Maths

Please start as usual with the final day of the Flashbacks: Week 2 Day 5 (saved in the Maths folder) and don't forget to press the play button and then click through when you know the answers.

Here's some revision on faces of 3D shapes. You'll need to use your knowledge of 2D shapes too.

The trickiest thing that Year 2 children are expected to be able to do with 3D shapes is to compare them. This activity and the challenges below will help you to do this:

Challenges to discuss with your parent:

And finally, here are today's problems:

Topic

Today, you'll need to finish off your fact file for your chosen big cat. How is it looking so far? are you proud of it? The empty spaces are for you to add some pictures. I wonder which of the big cats has been the most popular.

(If we were at school we could have made a graph of these. Perhaps you can phone some friends or ask members of your family which of the big cats is their favourite, then you could make a bar-chart of these.)

Use your research to complete the back page of your fact file:

Computing

I hope that you enjoyed the computing activities last week.

Today, I would like you to complete Level 3- ‘Jigsaw: Learn to drag and drop’.

2) Click the number 1 circle button next to Section 3 ‘Jigsaw: Learn to drag and drop’.

3) Follow the instructions and drag the blocks to complete the images.

4) When you get onto image number 12 (this is a dog with an orange background) then stop! We will go onto Level 4 after the holidays.
