Monday 22nd June

Good morning year 5

I hope you all had a nice weekend are back raring to go and work hard. As you know there are now some year 5 children starting back in school today, so the work I will be posting here will be as close to what they are doing in school - so you won't miss out. We are starting a new topic, with a new class reader called 'Children of Winter' by Berlie Doherty. The afternoon work topic work will be based around 'The Plague'. And the writing and reading tasks will all be linked to this where possible. Hopefully, you will find this as interesting as we have whilst we have been planning it.

Spellings.

Test yourselves on last weeks words and then use the sheets to practice new spellings for next week.

Maths.

First, we have the arithmetic test. Then there are resources from the white rose for subtracting decimals which are your arithmetic practice.

Today we will focus on place value.  Don't forget to check your work when you have finished.

Guided Reading.

The book we are reading is based in the Peak district in Derbyshire. So I am attaching a non-fiction text with a little bit of history of Derbyshire and a map to help you get some background knowledge. Read the text, look at the map and answer the questions. Also, to help you get the idea of what Derbyshire is like watch the video (3 mins long) it has images of the countryside, which will help you with background information for the English writing.

English.

We are going to be writing a diary in English, from the point of view of a character from our class reader. What I want you to do today it revise the information you need about diary writing from BBC Bitesize.
