Welcome to a new week Year 3,
I hope you had a super weekend. I had a lovely time with my boys. I took Jacob shopping for new trainers on Saturday as his feet have grown and he was complaining that his old trainers were squashing his toes!! Whilst we were out we went into Subway for a sandwich and ate it in the car. It was soooo nice. The first one we have had since social distancing began!!
On Sunday we spent time at home just pottering around and relaxing. It was lovely to spend some time doing nothing much. I had ordered some new coloured pencils and a lovely pencil case for my mindfullness colouring books. When they arrived I spent some time sorting them and putting all the pencils away.
I am looking forward to hearing your news this week.
Good morning Year 3!
We’re nearly at the end of the school year! How quickly has that gone?
I have had a lovely weekend. Have you?
On Saturday, I helped my brother move into his new apartment. We did lots of trips from home, to his old apartment and then his new one, but it was lovely to get out and about. In the evening, I had my first hairdresser appointment since January! My hair is a lot shorter, and I love it!
On Sunday, we had a lovely chilled out day at home. I finally got round to watching Frozen 2 and we had a lovely Sunday roast dinner.
I hope you all have a lovely week. Remember you can still be emailing us with updates on what you’ve been up to.

For the next 2 weeks up to the summer holidays, we will be focusing on place value and calculation. These are topics that we covered at the beginning of Year 3, however, we would love for you to explore these again in preparation for starting in Year 4. This week we will be focusing on place value, exploring the value of hundreds, tens and ones. There will be no videos to help you, however, you will already have some understanding from the teaching in school.
Today's reading activity is all about the Queen's birthday. Did you know that the Queen has two birthdays every year? Find out why by reading the text and then answer the questions that come with it. The answers are also attached, but remember, NO PEEKING.
Our writing task this week will be based on the book “The Land of Neverbelieve” by Norman Messenger.
Norman Messenger is an explorer who discovered The Land of Neverbelieve. It is an unbelievable, fantastical and magical place.
This week, we will become Norman Messenger’s apprentice.
An apprentice is a person who is learning how to be something e.g. an explorer.
We are going to learn how to become an explorer, like Norman, so that we can help him discover new habitats and the species of plants and animals that live there.
Start by watching this video of the Land of Neverbelieve.
Click below to view a map of The Land of Neverbelieve.
The island is an unusual shape and by exploring this fantasy island, Norman has discovered many strange and interesting things.
Your task today is to imagine you are working for Norman as an apprentice explorer.
What kind of things would an explorer need in their backpack?
Use the My Explorer Backpack worksheet to list all the things an explorer would need in their backpack. Draw the items inside the backpack and then label each one explaining why it would be useful. There is an example on the sheet so you can see what to do.
E.g. I would take a torch to help me see in the dark.
