Monday 8th June
Good morning year 5
I hope you all had a good weekend. I had a lovely weekend, it was my birthday and Mr Garside and my children had lots of fantastic surprises for me. I had balloons, a tiara and sash, a birthday cake, flowers and lots of presents. We had our weekly quiz and fancy dress and I made Ben dress up as Elvis which he was not happy about, but he looked so funny. I dressed up as Marilyn Monroe and my mum came online as Jessie from Toy Story. Then on Sunday we had roast beef and Yorkshire puddings for lunch (my favourite) and played board games together. I want to hear about your weekends, so email me and let me know what you have been getting up to.
Don't forget to test yourself on last weeks spellings (still available on 1st June Daily Tasks). Then look at the activities for this weeks spellings.
Attached below is an Arithmetic tests for this week and then today's learning from White Rose and a challenge sheet. White Rose have included some videos for alternative learning you might want to look at the inverse operation as well. BBC Bitesize has additional activities and support.
Summer Term - Week 7 (w/c 8th June) - Lesson 1 - Decimals as fractions.
Mrs Walker's group A
Today you will be doing some multiplication and division. If the question asks you to multiply, you need to count how many you have altogether (in all of the groups). If you have to divide, then you need to share so that each group has an equal amount.
Mrs Walker's group B
Today you will be learning about factors. Click on the file below to get your work.
Today we have an extract about Vampires. Read the text and answer the questions.
Mrs Walker's A and B groups
Read the extract from Howard Carter's diary and then answer the questions. You can check your work when you have finished.
I would like you to watch the powerpoint about commas. There is a set of activities about using commas correctly. The final task is to write a for and against argument about compulsory school uniforms. I'm sure you will enjoy this one. I wonder which side of the argument will be the strongest. Send me pictures of any work you do I would live to see.
Mrs Walker's A and B groups
Today you are going to create an instruction manual on how to build a pyramid. Before you start, click here to watch a video. You might want to take notes while you watch. Pay attention to the equipment and materials you need and what happens at each stage. Use the template on the file below.
Science Experiment - Forces (air resistance)
Finally, I have a PE video. This will definitely get you active and it's a bit different to the videos we have used up to now. The first block is dance, the second block is martial arts there are several blocks and each one is about 3 minutes long.
Have fun and I will speak to you tomorrow.
