Sex Education

By the end of primary school:

 

Sex Education objectives (Non-compulsory only taught in Year 6).

Pupils would know:

 

  • what pregnancy means, how long it lasts, and where it occurs, i.e. that a baby is made when a sperm (male) meets an egg /ovum (female) and then the fertilised egg settles into the lining of the uterus (or womb) (female)
  • human sexuality, reproduction, sexual health, emotions and relationships
  • learning about contraception and the range of local and national sexual health advice, contraception and support services; and the avoidance of unplanned pregnancy
  • learning the reasons for delaying sexual activity, and the benefits to be gained from such delay.
