Thursday 30th April 2020

Good morning 5/6 AA.  I hope the sunny weather makes a return soon but sometimes it is nice to snuggle up on the sofa when it is cold and miserable outside.  It's the last day of April today so let's make it a good day.  Here are your tasks:

Maths

Go to whiterosemaths.com - home learning - year 5 - summer term week 2 - lesson 4 (subtracting decimals with a different number of decimal places).  Watch the video, then complete the worksheet by clicking on get the activity.  Once you have finished, check your answers.

Extension task:

Go the BBC Bitesize website by clicking here.  This lesson is all about BODMAS.  There are two videos to watch and three activities.  We have covered this in class but it will be good for you to revise it.

Reading.

I would like to remind you to do an accelerated reader test once you have finished reading your book.  If you are having problems logging in, I have put the link for the website in the reading folder. Try to log in using that link.

Afternoon work

On 8th May 2020 it is the 75th anniversary of VE Day.  Watch this video to find out what VE day is.  Now that you have watched the video, can you explain what VE day is?

There were going to be lots of celebration to mark this anniversary (the bank holiday was moved so that everybody would be able to celebrate), but all those plans have had to be put on hold.

I would like you to plan a street party to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE day.  There will be decorations, games, food and drink.  All the people that live in your neighbourhood will be invited, so you should plan your party for about 50 people.  You have a budget of £400 but remember you will need to buy:

  • Decorations (e.g. bunting and flags)
  • Plates, cups and cutlery (knives, forks and spoons)
  • Food and drink (this should be party food)
  • Prizes for the games
  • Games (you could make these yourself but you will need to but the materials to make them)

Here is a website that sells party decorations to get you started.  This website sells party food.  Remember you cannot spend more than £400.
