Good morning 5/6AA.  How are you all this morning?  I thought we could start today a little bit differently, so let's start by singing a song.  Try your best to sign along with the video.

Now, let's get on with your tasks for today.

Maths

Go to whiterosemaths.com - home learning - year 5 - summer term week 2 - lesson 2 (subtracting decimals with the same number of decimal places).  Watch the video and then complete the worksheet by clicking on get the activity.  When you have finished you can check your answers.

Extension task:  if you want some extra work click here (it explains what prime and square numbers are and there are some activities to do).

Reading

Complete the character grid below.  You will need to work out how the characters are related to each other (e.g. brothers or mother and son), retrieve a fact and finally, give an impression and back it up with evidence.  You will have to reread the first chapter so that you really understand the relationships between the characters.  Click here for the link to the book or, if your prefer, there is a copy of the first chapter that you can print off below.

Writing

Yesterday we learnt about using commas to clarify meaning, today you will learn how to use commas to indicate parenthesis,  You can do this by completing the commas worksheet below.  Once you have completed that please click here to learn about the homophones there, their and there.  Finally, there is a worksheet about the homophones where, we're, wear and were for you to complete.

Do some research to find out what an adverb is.  Then complete the spot the adverb worksheet below.  Next have a go at using an adverb to make the sentences more interesting on the adverbs worksheet.

Look at the two pictures on the worksheet below.  One is of the farming area in the 1900's and the other is of the same area in 2017.  You need to:

  • explain what the differences are between the two pictures
  • why you think those differences happened
  • what the impact of that change is (e.g. building roads has made it easier for the farmer to get his crops to the buyer).
