School Uniform at Fixby J&I School

At Fixby, we believe that having a school uniform plays a key role in:

promoting the ethos of a school
providing a sense of belonging and identity
setting an appropriate tone for education

Our school uniform policy has been created in line with Government non-statutory guidance on school uniforms (November 2019) and Cost of school uniforms (November 2019)

Uniform

Grey or Black trousers / skirt / pinafore or shorts
Royal blue jumper or cardigan (branded or unbranded)
White shirt or polo shirt (branded or unbranded)
Blue / white summer dresses
Black shoes or boots (these can be trainer style shoes but must be all black)
Royal Blue fleece (optional)

Sports / PE Kit

On their PE day, pupils will come to school in their PE kit.

Black or navy shorts or joggers (Plain)
Black or navy hoodie or sweatshirt (Plain)
‘House’ PE t-shirt (these are coloured according to houses and can be branded or unbranded)
Y6 can wear their leavers hoodie
Royal Blue fleece (optional)
Trainers / pumps

Swimming kit

Close fitting attire- not Bermuda style shorts

Jewelry

Stud earrings, but MUST be removed on PE days
Watches are permitted but not SMART watches, but MUST be removed on PE days
No other jewelry is permitted (unless for religious purposes) , but MUST be removed on PE days
No acrylic nails or nail varnish

Where to buy your child’s school uniform

Please note that pupils no not need to wear uniform with the logo, however it must be the correct colours.

It is important to clearly mark all your child’s clothing with their name and class.

Uniform Exchange

Fixby Uniform can be sourced through the 'Uniform Exchange.' This is a charity that collects and donates uniform across Kirklees.

Families complete the form online and arrange collection or delivery. It is so easy and free of charge.

If you have any uniform that your child has grown out of, you can donate it at local collection points. We now have a 'drop off point' in school or the one closest to school, is Fixby Stores, Fixby Road.

Uniform Exchange Motivated by the documentary Poor Kids shown on BBC 1, on Tuesday 7th June 2011. We, a group of Huddersfield mums would like to do our share to help our community. We would like to actively support the families who struggle to provide school uniforms for their children. David Cameron said in his covering letter to the conservative 2010 manifesto ... “How will we revitalise communities unless people stop asking ‘who will fix this?’ and start asking ‘what can I do?’ Britain will change for the better when we all elect to take part, to take responsibility – if we all come together. Collective strength will overpower our problems....” School uniform grants across the UK have been cut, leaving many families without help. In partnership with the Local Sure Start Childrenʼs Centre, and with support from Kirklees council, we will collect unwanted uniforms and get them to the children who need them, free of charge. All donations are welcome, including those with school badges or slightly damaged. If an item is beyond repair it will be sold as rags, the money will help fund the Uniform Exchange. If you find yourself in a position where you would benefit from a free school uniform, there will be exchange events during the summer where we will distribute them. We will publicise these events through local media, so please look out for details.
