Good morning 1S!
This week is going by quick, isn’t it? Only three days to go before half-term so keep up the fantastic work! I am sending you a virtual high-five and hug this morning. We would be doing PE if we were in school this afternoon, so please try to do some extra physical activity today.
Here is the link if you would like to start your day with Joe Wicks PE:
Here are some activities to complete today:
Phase 5 Alternative Spellings /ow/. You will need to log in to access this game. https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/
Then scroll down to ‘Phase 5c Interactive Resources - Weeks 8-30’ and find ‘Alternative Spellings /ow/’.
In ‘Phoneme Spotter’ you need to see how many different graphemes you can find for the /ow/ phoneme- you could list the words. In ‘Word Sort’ you need to read the word, then sort it to the grapheme used.
Remember, you need to be able to apply these different spellings in different words.
Please continue to practise your ‘18.05.20 Spellings’ for our test after half-term.
Start each day with a page from the Flashbacks. They're saved in the ‘Maths’ Folder. Remember, this will consolidate what we have already learnt! You should be on Week 7 Day 3 today. Did you get 4/4 correct?
Warm up- Find 1 more and 1 less than the following numbers: 100, 56, 88, 72, 34, 21, 60.
Access the Home Learning Lesson 3 - Measure length (2) from White Rose Maths. We have already covered some length and height in school so you should be fairly confident with this.
1) Click this link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/
2) Click Summer Term- Week 5 (w/c 18th May). Click to play the video Lesson 3 - Measure length (2)
3) Here is your activity. If you can’t print this off, could you write your answers down on a piece of paper?
4) Here are the answers. Can somebody mark this for you?
Here is a problem to finish with:
Time for a break! - Movies In My Mind
How did you get on with your note-making about space suits yesterday? Aren’t they amazing pieces of kit?
Today you’re going to use your notes to write the final section of Bolts’ Space Report:
Here’s my WAGOLL:
Astronauts just would not survive outside of their space shuttle without a space suit. It protects them from the cold, the heat from the sun’s rays and from flying rocks. It also provides them with air to breathe. What an awesome piece of kit a space suit is! Without a space suit, an astronaut would die within only two minutes so it really is important. It may take an hour to get on, but it provides everything that an astronaut needs for seven hours. The rocket powered backpacks must be great fun, don’t you think?
Remember to write in full sentences using capital letters and full stops for each one. You may also need to use commas, question marks or exclamation marks. Have you made your final section interesting and engaging for your reader?
I'm sure you are ready for some lunch now!
Did you make your predictions yesterday?
I'm sorry, but there wasn't a happy ending for Beegu - just look what happens next:
I'm sure that you're Fixby ending is a much happier one. .
Today in topic we are going to be doing some art work. I have a couple of suggestions for you. You can choose one of them or have a go at both - it's up to you!
The first idea is to make a robot; I’m sure you will enjoy this!
Resources you will need:
- Cardboard or scrap cardboard
- Glue stick
- Post-it notes - optional
- An old, clear CD case
- Lollipop sticks sticks
- Metal washers, small bolts, screws, paper clips, plastic parts and other small metal pieces
- Kitchen foil
The second art activity is to make a porthole. Imagine that you are in a space shuttle looking out of the porthole (window). What would you be able to see?
Enjoy, and I would love to see some pictures of your models!
Have a fantastic day!
